Mr Mayor, Madam City Administrator and City Council Members,
In the five-day period ending Wednesday, December 13th at 4:00 p.m., 2.6 inches of rain fell in Oakland, bringing our percent of normal precipitation to 78% for the period July 1, 2006, through December 13, 2006, and it is above where we were last time this year.
More rain showers are likely tonight continuing into Friday before tapering off Friday night, then continuing on Saturday and Sunday.
Call volume was light with a total of 60 weather-related calls received over the five-day period. (Please see attached report for a complete listing of calls from our Public Works Agency Call Center.)
Crews continue to be proactive inspecting and cleaning inlets and storm drains throughout the city. Efforts are also underway to monitor the Lake Merritt area and area hills for any drainage related issues to avert potential problems. Over the past five days, standby crews distributed 337 sandbags and 160 ft. of plastic sheeting from the Municipal Service Center; and 135 sandbags and 50 ft. of plastic sheeting were distributed from the Shepherd Canyon yard.

Location of Problem Areas:
-
6195 Coliseum Way – Coliseum Way at Julie Ann Way and Kevin Court – Drainage trench is heavily vegetated and restricting flow to the City’s 24-inch storm drain. On Wednesday, December 13th, crews located source of blockage around 7:00 p.m., and excavated 30 cubic yards of silt and debris in an attempt to clear the pipe and lower water level. Area will continue to be a work in progress throughout the rainy season. Long-term, a proposal for drainage trench maintenance is in the works for this area, however, environmental factors impede available solutions.
Number of Calls Received
Our crews will continue to work thru this weekend servicing calls and proactively inspecting and cleaning inlets and other drainage structures. I will keep you posted on developments as they occur. I will follow up with another Winter Storm Report early next week to cover the activities for this coming Friday thru Sunday.
