Mission Statement - to protect Oakland’s natural resources and the health of our community through waste reduction, energy efficiency, pollution prevention, environmental clean-up and promotion of sustainability.

• Energy Efficiency and Renewables Group reduces electricity and natural gas use and greenhouse gas emissions from City buildings through energy conservation, efficiency and solar power generation. They also advocate for energy efficiency programs to serve Oakland residents and businesses.
• Environmental Protection & Compliance is dedicated to improving the environmental quality of the City of Oakland’s facilities, open spaces, rights-of-way, waterways and redevelopment projects through professional environmental assessments and cleanups, implementation of best management practices, coordination of volunteer restoration efforts, and education.
• Recycling & Solid Waste Program implements the City’s Zero Waste policy goal through programs, planning, technical assistance, and education to reduce, reuse, recycle and responsibly manage solid waste from Oakland residents and businesses.
• The Sustainable Oakland program supports Oakland’s progress toward becoming a model sustainable city through tracking, reporting on and promoting Oakland’s sustainability performance, and facilitating improved institutional collaborative approaches to assessing and improving that performance.
