Honorable Mayor, City Council Members, and Madam City
Administrator:
In the seven-day period ending Sunday,
January 27th at 4:00 p.m., 3.07 inches of rain fell in Oakland,
bringing our percent of normal precipitation to 103% for the period July 1,
2007, through January 27, 2008.
For the remainder of the week,
scattered showers and rain are in the forecast, with some patchy fog.
Call volume was minimal with a total
of 62 weather-related calls received over the seven-day
period.
As rains resume for the season, crews
continue to inspect and clean inlets and storm drains and to patrol and monitor
the Lake
Merritt area and hills for any
drainage-related issues in order to avert problems. There were crews on standby
for sandbag distribution, with 612 sandbags and 276 feet of plastic sheeting
distributed from the Municipal Service Center and Shepherd Canyon yard over the
seven-day period.

In summary,
the pre-storming activities continue to pay dividends in preventing
major problems during our recent storms, and our crews continue to respond
expeditiously to those issues that do arise. CEDA Engineering continues to
serve as the lead in response to the Skyline slide from the January 4th storm,
and their latest update is attached for your reference. They will continue to
issue updates as necessary.
